There are so many things that you can buy for a baby, especially a first child, that it can be confusing. Things from furniture to feeding items such as bibs, bottles, etc.
You may find this babies checklist useful for your baby.
The list includes:
Change table items
General and first aid
Out & about
Useful travel items
Do keep in mind that people are often incredibly generous when a baby is born, so you may end up with multiple items. Consider using this as a babies checklist for registries, so you can let people know what you need.
You may decide to do without some specialized items such as a bottle warmer, sterilization equipment, or nappy disposal system. They may seem unnecessary, but they are all very handy. Feeding and nappy changing goes on for about 2 years.
Bassinette mattress protector, sheets, blankets (cotton or flannelette depending on season and home temperature)
2-3 cot sheet sets, 2 mattress protectors, heavy blankets are not recommended due to the risk of sudden infant death syndrome.
